Famous Rat Pack Icon – Sahara Casino Closes
In just 3 1/2 years the new owners of the Sahara Casino, a famous Rat Pack icon, have run the business into the ground.
The Sahara was made immortal when it was featured in Frank Sinatra’s famous 1960 movie Ocean’s Eleven. In the movie the Rat Pack stage the greatest heist in the history of Las Vegas by hitting 5 casinos on the Vegas strip simultaneously on New Year’s Eve.
The casinos they… Read the rest

Sinatra in Concert in Amsterdam 1975
I received an interesting email from a Sinatra Fan in the Netherlands that I would like to share with everyone. His post is in Dutch but you can see the image of his original ticket stub to see Frank Sinatra in Amsterdam on June 2, 1975. I love to see original memorabilia like this.
I have posted an article with my memories of a Sinatra concert in 1975 in Amsterdam, with a copy… Read the rest
Esquire’s Best – Frank Sinatra Has a Cold 1966
Esquire just released “The 7 Greatest Stories in the History of Esquire Magazine” one of which caught my attention. Written by Gay Talese and titled “Frank Sinatra Has a Cold”, it was originally published in the April 1966 edition of Esquire magazine.
The article became one of the most celebrated magazine stories ever published, a pioneering example of what came to be called New Journalism — a work of rigorously faithful fact enlivened with the… Read the rest

55 Years of Songs For Swingin’ Lovers
Now that it is 2011, it seems fitting to mention Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!.
It seems hard to believe, but this classic album, perhaps the cornerstone of Frank Sinatra’s long career, has now reached its 55th Anniversary with nary a whisper of the milestone anywhere.
Originally recorded in January of 1956, Songs For Swingin’ Lovers is, for many, Sinatra epitomized. It includes the monster hits I’ve Got You Under My Skin and You… Read the rest
45 RPM Extended Play (EP) Records
While the 10? LP is a favorite category of Sinatra collectibles, I have a real soft spot for the 45 RPM EP record. These are records that are the size of the 45, but that usually contain 4 tunes instead of the normal two you’d expect with a single. Thus, the name EP, or Extended Play. Some were released containing small collections of songs not otherwise released on LP while others were released in multi-part… Read the rest
Sinatra at The Sands – 1954

And now for the grandfather of all Sands Hotel advertisements. This one hearkens back to circa 1954 at approximately the time of Sinatra’s first appearance at The Sands Hotel. Previously Sinatra had been appearing at The Desert Inn, and his move to the Sands would have major positive implications for himself, The Sands, and for all of Las Vegas.
Rustic Cabin – Where It All Began For Sinatra
From a vintage, original menu, comes this logo for The Rustic Cabin, another locale made famous by Frank Sinatra. It was here that Sinatra was first ‘discovered’ in 1939 by Harry James. Sinatra went on to join James’ band that year and the rest, they say, is history.
There are no known performances of Sinatra singing at The Rustic Cabin but there is on tantalizingly close encounter – a 1939 radio remote from the Rustic… Read the rest
Frank Sinatra Budweiser LP – How Rare?
Among the most famous of the rare items sought after by Sinatra collectors, the famous Budweiser LP is probably at the top of most collector’s lists. This is the soundtrack to Sinatra’s ‘A Man and His Music Part II’ television show, which was sponsored by Budweiser. The company had a special commemorative version made with the cover as shown above. These were then given to Budweiser distributors as promo items and, over the years, have… Read the rest
Sinatra Ring-a-Ding-Ding Reel-to-Reel Tape
Sinatra’s very first Reprise LP, Ring-a-Ding-Ding was quite a successful release. It was available on LP, which is what most people purchased, but also in reel-to-reel tape format, which is shown above.
What makes this item so unusual is the unusual cover artwork, which was only released on the very first production run of this tape and never on the LP. Subsequent releases used the same artwork as the original LP.
Given that reel-to-reel tapes… Read the rest
Sinatra: Stars in Your Eyes from 1935??
This morning I’ve seen two articles reference an Ebay auction for a 1935 Sinatra rendition of Stars in Your Eyes. Honestly, I have to think that someone has their facts mixed up because I don’t know any collectors who’ve heard of this one, which would have been recorded a full four years earlier than Sinatra’s previously acknowledge ‘first’ recording, Our Love.
Click here to read the article. If anyone knows more about this,… Read the rest
