Last night’s Grammy Awards opened with a ‘duet’ between Sinatra and Alicia Keys. At the moment it’s all over YouTube. Here’s a link to one copy of the video. If the link is broken, search YouTube for ‘Sinatra Keys’ and you’ll find it easily. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of these types of electronic duet performances. Still, it’s nice to see Sinatra in Prime Time again.
On a Grammy-related note, yesterday on CBS Sunday Morning the history of the awards were discussed and some good and bad choices for Album of The Year were highlighted. Chief among the bad choices was Sinatra’s loss in 1959. That year Sinatra was nominated for not one but TWO great albums, Come Fly With Me and Only The Lonely. Alas, the winner was Henry Mancini with his Music From Peter Gunn. If the the vote were retaken now I have a hunch the outcome would be quite different. Hindsight certainly is an exact science.
