It seems ironic and, in some ways, fitting that on the day the last surviving member of the Rat Pack dies that Atlantic City’s famed Sands Hotel and Casino will be demolished. While the Atlantic City Sands Hotel doesn’t have nearly the pedigree of its Las Vegas counterpart, the facility maintained a strong association with Sinatra. In fact, Sinatra’s last public performances in the United States were held there in November of 1994.
Barring a last-minute reprieve, the Sands comes down at 9:30PM eastern time this evening. Mark this on your calendar: October 18th, 2007. The end of an era.
