New Bobby Darin Blog

A Sinatraclub member writes to tell us the following news of interest to Bobby Darin fans:

I recently launched a new site devoted to Bobby, DarinLand.com, with a Bobby
Darin Forum, a Bobby Blog, Bobby polls and trivia quizzes, articles,
interviews, and a Bobby Shop carrying his CDs and DVDs.

So far, it’s going great. We have some wonderful contributors, and I just
finished and posted an interview with one of Bobby’s high school friends,
Elli Fordyce. She’s singing jazz now and is about to record her first live
CD. A sweet and talented woman with some wonderful stories.

I am Carmen Greene. The fact that I have made this comments before about Bobby Darin ,is because he had covered such a teritory in such a high artistic level, against all adds, in a short life span, through phisical and emotional turmoil of all kinds.
He sings with such excitment and passion, such dept, such love, joy and sadness, sexapeal and masculinity with unique personal touches, and yet sometime so vulnerable like a kid.
It reaches you at the core of your soul and heart.
A tremenduos showman full of carisma and elegance, good taste and a tremenduos giver on stage. He has that certain plus that you get born with, a plus that makes you understand life, makes you total credible when you perform, because first it touches you, the performer.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Sinatra. But so much more BOBBY DARIN, who in my opinion has been misunderstood and underrated for to long, leting him hidden under tha ashes of the time.I purchase, I believe almost everything I have found and after 3 years of listening to his music in all styles that he is a genius for,I can not get enough of him.I was a professional singer myself for 30 years.Part of a group called the Dimitri Sisters.I know what I am ialking about.THe songs Mack the Knife, Lazy river,Clementine, The end of never,Happy,18 Yelow Roses,It must be a place where love has gone, Here I am, and so many , many more, can not be delivered by nobody the way Bobby Darin molded them.
This is why I made such strong comment. He is the best and sadly enough most of the world don’t know-it. WHY? I don’ know.I guess this is life.
    Sincerely,
    Carmen Greene

    Hi,

I’m trying to get the word out on this fantastic new CD ‘Yo! Bobby’ - can you post it for me?

Please post for all the Darin fans!

Waverly Seven spins fresh takes on the classic Bobby Darin songbook with this outrageously fun 2 CD set!

    Check it out here: http://players.anzicstore.com/yo/

There was an era in American popular culture when pop music was something completely different than what it has become today; when an outstanding instrumentalist could be a pop star no less than a vocalist; when even headlining singers were expected to be complete musicians and instrumentalists were expected to be entertainers.

YO! BOBBY is evidence that this performance ethic hasn’t entirely been lost to time. The members of the band revel in the joy that comes from the combination of jazz, showmanship and the Great American Songbook. The band lineup includes saxophonists Anat Cohen and Joel Frahm, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, keyboardists Jason Lindner and Manuel Valera, who share duties on various keyboards (piano and Wurlitzer electric piano), bassist Barak Mori and drummer Daniel Freedman. Scott Robinson (Baritone Sax) and Vic Juris (Guitar) make guest appearances.
