One of Sinatra’s more interesting musical experiences over the years was his appearances with jazz legend Red Norvo. Although Sinatra is most remembered standing out in front of a big band, there were several occasions where he appeared with smaller jazz combos. His appearances with Norvo were of this variety. In fact, a recording, Sinatra in Australia, features Sinatra with Norvo in this very setting. The results are a sublime variation on many favorite Sinatra standards.
The artwork shown is from an appearance at The Sands Hotel Copa Room with Red Norvo which would probably have been from circa 1959 or 1960. It would be miraculous if any of these performances had been recorded. For now, the aforementioned Sinatra in Australia will have to suffice, despite less than stellar audio quality.
