Frank Sinatra Budweiser LP - How Rare?

Famous Frank Sinatra Budweiser LP

Among the most famous of the rare items sought after by Sinatra collectors, the famous Budweiser LP is probably at the top of most collector’s lists. This is the soundtrack to Sinatra’s ‘A Man and His Music Part II’ television show, which was sponsored by Budweiser. The company had a special commemorative version made with the cover as shown above. These were then given to Budweiser distributors as promo items and, over the years, have fallen into the hands of collectors.

The value depends on condition, but generally ranges from about $75 to $250 per copy.

While this item is highly sought after, it can hardly be considered an ultra-rarity. The exact production quantity of this LP has never been published anywhere to my knowledge and it it turns up often enough in online auctions that one begins to wonder if the item was ever rare at all. Perhaps because this item acquired a reputation for rarity in the pre-Internet era (before online auctions), it has retained this air of scarcity.

There is one other possibility I have considered. Given the desirability of this record, it is quite possibly heavily bootlegged in the 1960s and 1970s. As there is no definitive guide to the differences between the real McCoy album and the faker (if it exists), the buyer of this item must be cautious and remember that authenticity of any easily-reproduced collectible should always be questioned.
